Catastrophic Injury Claims Handler

Somerset Bridge Group are looking for a Catastrophic Injury Claims Handler to manage a caseload of claims of the utmost severity.

Due to growth in the team, we are looking for someone who has extensive experience within the motor claims industry who regularly manages claims under their own authority in excess of £2.5m.

Our team is based in Newcastle, hybrid working is available.  

Role profile

  • Proactively manage a portfolio of high value/catastrophic Injury claims in excess of £2.5m from first notification onwards to achieve an optimum settlement
  • Developing the technical claims skills of the Large Loss Technical Claims team (through coaching, mentoring and training)
  • Ensuring all new and internally reallocated claims are reserved in a timely manner
  • Maintaining and improving Insurers and Reinsurers confidence in the Large Loss Technical Claims Team by ensuring these high value cases are handled with a high degree of technical excellence
  • Acting as a technical referral point.
  • Carrying out audits of our Legal Suppliers.
  • Ensuring reserving accuracy on receipt of new and relevant information.

 Relevant skills/experience/abilities

  • Substantial knowledge and experience of settling catastrophic injury claims.
  • Be able to confidently handle claims to include - Head & brain injuries, Amputations, Serious spinal injuries, Fatal accidents including dependency, Complex care and loss of earnings calculations
  • Detailed knowledge of the CPR including multi track litigation
  • Ability to negotiate substantial legal costs
  • CRU including the appeals and review process
  • RTA/Article 75/MIB procedures
  • Flexibility to travel across the UK when required to attend Case Conferences, Trials & Joint Settlement Meetings.
  • Ability to manage relationships with internal/external suppliers
  • Awareness of Re-insurance practices
  • Experience of sitting on market bodies or working groups (such as the ABI PI Committee, MIB Article 75 working group, MIB Technical Committee etc.) is preferable
  • ACII qualified or significant progress towards this is preferable
