IT Architecture Team Manager

Location - Bristol
Employment Type - Full Time - Permanent
Salary - Up to £65,000 per annum
Hours Per Week - 37.5

The Architecture Team Manager will oversee a team of Technical Specialists and Architects, providing technical design, advice and implementation services to the broader IT team and business. A key aspect of this role involves acting as the initial point of contact for the team and determining the specialist resources needed for each work stream. Additionally, the role includes team coordination, resource management, reporting and collaboration with the wider IT management team. Strong leadership skills, the ability to collaborate with other business and IT teams, and a commitment to delivering excellent service levels are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the IT Architecture team (currently 5 technical specialists) to deliver technical design, advice and implementation services to the wider IT team and business.
  • Develop and implement strategies and formalise standards for IT Architecture.
  • Monitor team capacity and supervise work queues to ensure we deliver on objectives and have appropriate resources in place.
  • Provide input to project design and complete cost proposals for business requirements.
  • Instal a culture of continuous improvement both in process and approach and use of new technology leading trials and evaluations.
  • Ensure that all appropriate security standards are maintained.
  • Ensure that appropriate documentation is created and maintained to allow for efficient management of the infrastructure and to enable effective collaboration with the wider IT team.
  • Collaborate closely with the IT Operations Manager and IT Infrastructure Manager to ensure smooth handover of new technology and provision of 4th line escalation for technical guidance / assistance.
  • Collaborate closely with the IT Project Manager to oversee the design, implementation and maintenance of IT projects to ensure they meet the quality and performance standards.
  • Carry out quarterly 121s, development plans, etc. with all direct reports.
  • Oversee management of staff rota and holiday planning.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • 5+ years’ experience in an IT management role, in addition to 5+ years in an Architecture / Technical IT role.
  • 3+ years’ experience working at a senior level with Azure services / migrations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Desirable certifications:
  1. ITIL V4 Foundation or higher
  2. Vendor qualifications relevant to the job e.g. MCSA/MCSE or equivalent M365/ Azure qualification.
  3. Awareness of Compliance requirements such as: CE+, PCI, GDPR, ISO27001, CIS.
  4. Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  5. TOGAF certification or similar.
  • Technical Proficiency: Deep knowledge of IT systems, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and software development.
  • Strategic Planning: Ability to align IT strategies with business goals and manage long term IT objectives.
  • Leadership: Leading and inspiring teams, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Communication: Clearly articulating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and facilitating collaboration.
  • Problem Solving: Analytical thinking and troubleshooting to address technical challenges and optimise IT processes.
  • Adaptability: Managing change and staying current with emerging technologies and industry trends.
  • Business Acumen: Understanding economic factors and ensuring IT investments deliver business value. Experienced in producing proposals and business-focused reports including financial and return on investment reporting.
  • Experience of working in a PCI DSS and FCA regulated business with Cyber Essentials Plus security accreditation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
