Data Engineer

Location - Bristol

We are recruiting for a Data Engineer to join our Data Engineering team who are responsible for the development and maintenance of data assets for underwriting analysis as well as live pricing systems. The successful candidate will support in developing our data pipelines, creating data products for use by Analysts and supporting the development of our data strategy to meet current and emerging demands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain core data assets (e.g. as Master extracts, key lookup tables, modelling datasets, etc.)
  • Develop processes to integrate pricing specific internal data (e.g. model scores) into core data assets and manage data flows between different systems.
  • Build & maintain pipelines to source and integrate external data (e.g. APIs).
  • Identify & resolve emerging data issues and ensure accuracy of end products.
  • Maintain robust documentation for data processes (incl. flow charts, data dictionaries and asset register).
  • Scope and implement technological innovation.
  • Provide technical leadership for process automation across the department.
  • Contribute to BAU and project work as required.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Proven coding experience (SQL, Python, or similar).
  • Experience within the Insurance sector.
  • Strong understanding of the Data Engineering process.
  • Experience in a data-heavy role (e.g. MI, programming, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree in a numerical field (e.g. Maths, Physics, Computer Science, etc.)
  • Experience with different data platforms and data models.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to gather and understand requirements from a technical standpoint.
  • Technical experience in Snowflake Data Engineering is desirable.
