Finance Governance and Risk Manager
We are hiring a Finance Governance and Risk Manager to be responsible for the review, support and development of the finance risk and compliance framework across the Finance Leadership team. You will review and challenge the Finance Leadership team, and the wider business, to ensure that finance risks are identified, managed, measured and controlled, optimising the ability to balance risk and reward.
You will also provide all round strategic and operational support to the Chief Financial Officer and the finance leadership team on daily basis. Ensuring high-quality and timely implementation of key projects through in-depth analysis, challenge, and structure.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Manager:
- Develop and provide a new model of business support which makes the best use of the CFO’s resources, time and effort to maximise delivery. This includes effective business management and project management.
- Identification of key business issues and ensuring actions are identified, monitored and completed accordingly.
- Prepare presentations and reports at final draft stage, maintaining the highest levels of professional standards. This will require analysis, interpretation and communication of complex information to a wide range of audiences including the Executive Team and Board.
- Provide detailed reports including KPIs, KRIs and KCIs summarising status on issues, appraising outcomes, and providing progress report as required.
- Ensure the CFO is appraised of all necessary information prior to attending meetings, and where gaps are identified, source the relevant information to support effective decision-making.
- Ensure that actions from meetings that are assigned to the CFO are followed up and progressed, briefing executives and finance management on required actions to be completed. Secure updates to ensure actions are completed in the required timeframes and to accurate and appropriate professional standards.
- Maintain the highest standard of confidentiality, conduct and integrity and ensure compliance with the group’s statutory and regulatory duties and responsibilities.
Risk management & Compliance:
- Facilitate regular risk reviews of known and emerging risks, monitoring of risks against the risk appetite and KRIs with the Finance function.
- Translate the risk assessment results into insights and language appropriate for Finance professionals, Senior Management, and other key stakeholders.
- Manage risk events when identified. Work with the various parts of the business to manage finance related risk events and ensure that issues are resolved effectively, lessons are learned, and that accountability sits with the right owners within the business.
- Provide consultancy and support finance leaders in managing risk within their areas via education and awareness sessions (workshops, additional training etc).
- Produce analysis and reporting of the risk and control environment ensuring timely identification of themes and emerging risks, issues and exposure and provide recommendation for action to allow reporting to relevant Committees.
- Ensuring finance policies are aligned with the Group ERMF. Support managing the Group Policy activities, such as Conflict of Interest (COI); Whistleblowing and Anti-Bribery Policy.
- Assess the impact of change within SBG against our risk profile and support change initiatives and projects that impact the finance function.
- Remain aware of leading practices on managing risk and keep up to date on current industry practices and implement change where needed ensuring timely insight on industry thinking for risk in general and Finance.
Strategy and Project management:
- Lead the CFO team through the annual planning cycle including strategy, operational and financial planning exercises liaising with the Group FP&A team and Group Strategy team as required.
- Provide leadership to CFO initiated projects across the finance function – ensuring they are aligned with CFO strategy and priorities - and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement within the finance team.
- Drive the development of robust business cases and cost benefit analysis for CFO projects seeking enterprise funding. Act as the interface between Finance and the Group Change and Transformation teams. Be the subject matter expert within Finance on the Group change processes and governance.
Required Skills/Experience:
You have an analytical mind and are able to challenge the status quo and to convince others when needed. In addition, you are a self-starter, have valuable stakeholder management skills and you are curious and eager to learn. In addition, you have the following qualifications:
- At least 3+ years of experience in relevant areas such as business administration, project management, key functions, and/or consulting background.
- Experience of working in a governance or risk role.
- High level of drive, results driven, focused on getting things done, self-starter
- Commercially aware, proactive, forward looking, inquisitive with an excellent attention to detail.
- Working on own initiative, with the ability to introduce fresh thinking to the role and the wider Finance team.
- Excellent interpersonal, influencing and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- The ability to make effective and informed decisions.
- Quickly understands the business issues and challenges of the business.
- The ability to develop clear, efficient and logical approaches to tasks and problems.
- The ability to understand the needs and priorities of customers (inside and outside the organisation) and the desire to meet their expectations.
- A strong understanding of the current regulatory landscape, macroeconomic environment and risk management techniques.
